Toastmasters has thriving chaper in Ridgewood
Michael Sedon - Staff Writer - The Ridgewood News

A Ridgewood organization is helping its members turn the nightmare of public speech into a rewarding and fun exercise with numerous benefits in professional and social settings.
PHOTO AT LEFT: President of the Ridgewood Toastmasters John Engeman, right, with his Dutch counterpart after delivering a humorous speech at a Dutch Toastmasters International meeting in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
The Ridgewood Toastmasters Club, now in its 52nd year, meets locally at the Unitarian Society of Ridgewood to work on public speaking skills. The group has 55 members, but is only one club in a global network of Toastmasters.
"In all major cities and countries around the world, they have Toastmaster Clubs," said John B. Engeman, president of the Ridgewood Toastmasters.
Engeman has been a member of Toastmasters for five years, and he described his experience with the club as a confidence builder, a sentiment echoed by many other members. Read more about the Ridgewood Toastmasters Club at NorthJersey.com |

Awards will be presented at the Spring conference in May. Do you want to see your clubs name mentioned here? Then you need to get in on the fun. Our next contest has already started and runs from January 5 – February 15th. All current District 83 VPPR’s have been sent an e-mail with the official rules.

Steven Lord, DTM, Area 23 Governor
|
|
At the District 83 Conference on Saturday, November 14, 2009, Immediate Past District Governor Paul Scharf, DTM, named the District Toastmaster of the Year for 2008-2009. It is none other than Hackettstown Toastmasters’ own VP-Education, Jim “Cap’n Groggy” Birnbaum! Jim is also VP-Education for Skylands Toastmasters and a valued member of Northern Stars advanced Toastmasters club. photo courtesy Robert BugaiIn announcing the award Paul noted that Jim, who was Area 23 Governor last year, “Ran the Spring Conference like silk. He said ‘yes’ to become the Spring Conference chair and Hail & Farewell registration chair in two seconds, and he did a great job at both. He has never hesitated to help other Toastmasters.” Jim’s Area was a President’s Distinguished Area and he was instrumental in chartering (and mentoring) our own Hackettstown Toastmasters club. Being selected District Toastmaster of the Year out of over 3,000 members is an incredible honor. When you see Jim, congratulate him on his award and give him a hearty “Arrrrrrr!” |
